Our Speaker This Week Is Dr. Erin McCoy

Erin R. McCoy is an Associate Professor of English & Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. Her book, War Tour: A Cultural History of the Viet Nam War (McFarland, 2022) looks at the Viet Nam War through the lens of history, popular culture (especially music) as well as her own award-funded research in Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, and Australia.

She is set to go back to Viet Nam (and Cambodia) on 8 May - 2 June for research on UXO (unexploded ordinance) workers courtesy of a University of South Carolina RISE Award. She lives in Savannah with her husband and their pets. You can find her at mizmccoy.com.

This should prove to be a very interesting presentation.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BRING A PROSPECTIVE MEMBER!!!

Let’s be the friendly club and please make sure to introduce yourself to Erin and find her a seat.

SAVE THE DATE: December 2nd

We are keeping our social chairman Tom very busy.  He has a location and menu for our Christmas Party.  This will be a don’t miss party!!

SAVE THE DATE: Friday, November 3rd

Happy Feet is back!!!  We will be handing out new sneakers to the children at The Children’s Center.  This is one of our most important projects that we do but it takes many hands for it to be successful.  Tyler will be discussing our needs at tomorrow’s meeting.  Please help if you can.  See the flyer that went out to TCC parents.

SAVE THE DATE: November 20th Meeting

Maury has certainly been busy getting us great speakers and the one for our November 20th meeting is one you don’t want to miss.  We will have Dave Lauderdale, the journalist, visiting us and giving a presentation.  This is also a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to invite prospective members to attend and to show them what Sunset Club is all about.

EACH ONE REACH ONE

Are you bringing a guest to Monday’s meeting??  Why doesn’t everyone reach out to a friend (see me for a free 50/50 raffle ticket!) and invite them to dinner?  You never know where that next new member will come from.
THANKS RAY!

In the Rotary tradition of service, Ray has stepped up and volunteered to be our Club Champion for the Shelter Box!  (See me for a free lottery ticket but don’t tell anyone!!)  I’m sure he will keep us more up to date and involved with this important Rotary organization.  Thanks Ray for volunteering.
