JOHN'S NEWSLETTER NOTES

 

The kick-off meeting of the 2022 Mini Golf Committee will be May 31 at 5 pm. The meeting will begin with a short social and then to business. If you are willing to serve on this committee along with myself and several other Rotarians who have already committed, please let me know. We need the help.
 
The Lunch Club is in the process of planning a Rotary Festival which will be open to the community. The event is scheduled for May 21 at Celebration Park. The Lunch Club is asking the other clubs in the area to attend and perhaps furnish some volunteers to assist in setting up and serving hot dogs, soft drinks, etc. Attendance is free. More information to follow.
 
At this week’s meeting we will be presenting Paul Harris Pins to Harold Mason, General manager at Pirates Island, and Jodi Levitt (PH + 3) Executive Director of the Children’s Center.
 
May 30 is Memorial Day and it is on Monday. We will ask the members attending this week if we wish to meet on Memorial Day.
 
Our guest speaker this week is Quinn Monahan from USCB. See his biography below.

Speaker 5/2/2022- Quin Monahan, MS

 

Quin Monahan joined the USCB staff as the school's third Director of Athletics in Sept. 2012 after two years in the same position at Belmont Abbey College, an NCAA Division II institution outside Charlotte, N.C. Prior to his time at Belmont Abbey, Monahan was the Director of Athletics at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) from 2008-10 after previously serving as SCAD's Associate Director of Athletics (2003-08) and Coordinator of Academic Advising (2001-03).  All in all, Monahan has been in Collegiate Athletics Administration for over 18 years.

 

Most recently, Monahan has led USCB through the application process of joining NCAA Division II, and is awaiting final confirmation of their acceptance to the NCAA Provisional process.

 

Monahan received his Associate of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Kansas City Kansas Community College in 1988 and his Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 1990. In 1994, he completed a Master of Arts in Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary. 

 

Monahan and his wife, Beth, have two sons – Keegan is a Junior at Berry College and Quin Jr. is a Senior at Hilton Head Christian Academy.
Speaker 4/25/22- Sergeant Daniel Allen
 
 
Staff Sergeant Daniel "Danny'' Allen, the Crime Prevention/Community Liaison for the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spoke at the 4/25/22 meeting. 
 
Danny served briefly as the Communications Liaison, prior to being reassigned as an Accreditation Officer. Danny served in the accreditation section for a little over a year until April 2018 when he was promoted to Sergeant by the Sheriff and asked to take over the Crime Prevention and Community Liaison position.
